:00. >>> mitt romney has enjoyed a boost in several polls from a strong debate performance, but it's a new poll out this morning of voters in swing states that may hold the most encouraging news for the former governor. the poll by nbc news, marist and "wall street journal" shows romney closing the gap in three states. ohio, florida, and right here in virginia. it is virginia that is considered one of the most importan states of this election where romney is really gaining some ground. he now leads the president there 48% to 47%. that is a three-point swing from last week when he trailed by two points. in ohio is where we're also seeing some new numbers this morning. the president still leads there, though. romney has gained two points, though, in the last week to shrink the advantage to 51-45 right now. the president also leading in florida this morning, but only by one percentage point, well within the margin of error for this poll. the only good news for the president here, it is the same lead he held during last week's poll. >> while mitt romney can't be in all key states all the time, his

to land a bunch of punches in last week's debate. the polls showed the democrats slipping. a lot of swing states started to swing over to romney. they needed a jolt of energy and it's what joe biden gave last night. some people say, can say he was too aggressive. but they absolutely could not have had another listless performance. they didn't get one. paul ryan, he had a difficult job. he had to both make a case for himself as a new person on the tional stage and i think he came into this thinking, i can't mess things up. the romney campaign had momentum and he didn't commit any big gaffes. >> if people are going to have issues, it may be more about stylistic things with biden interrupting. but neither candidate seemed to make business mistakes, though i want to ask you about one thing in a little bit. did they both score points at various times? >> they both have things both parties can take a clip and say, hey, we scored here, we scored there. but i do think that for democrats, they were happy that biden came out punching so hard on a lot of the things the president failed to bring up l
president obama's weak performance in denver, mitt romney, for the first time, is seeing a bump in the polls and in some states is pulling narrowly ahead. i think biden will turn that around. put paul ryan in the gop ticket back, but at the same time, the burden is on right to keep the mojo going, to keep romney's sort of balance alive for at least a few more days until the president and mitt romney face off again next week. that is the biggest reason why this thing. also, one other important point. this is one of the first, possibly the only campaign where one side is really campaigning against the policies of the other party's vice-president. as much as they are running against the other party's presidential nominee. paul ryan and his budget proposals are really a flashpoint in this campaign. i think it is unique in that sense because biden is going to be hammering paul ryan and the gop ticket on his proposal. on a long-term fiscal issue. >> you framed it this way. in 2008 gentleman show debated governors sarah palin wondering in scranton joe will show up for thursday's debate. >> the sour
